Finding it hard to hire a dress as a size 14, starting to hate retail shopping, and seeing a gap in the hire industry is what lead to the birth of 808 Threads.
"Being a top-heavy size 14 and unable to find a nice dress that was affordable—while not seeing my size represented in the fashion industry—is why I decided to start my own hire boutique with inclusivity and body positive messaging in mind."
— Director & Co-Founder of 808 Threads Alexia Frangos
Our mission is to bring body positivity and empowerment to women in Adelaide and eventually fill the massive gap within the dress hire industry in Australia.
808 Threads opened its doors in April 2017 with a commitment to providing women that range from size 10 to 22 with luxury garments to wear on a night out at a fraction of the retail price.
More importantly, we want women to feel good about themselves while wearing our garments — there is no better feeling than knowing you've contributed to building someone's confidence.
Our garments are carefully hand-picked to allow comfort and style at any size, while keeping up with current trends and timeless designs.
We have created a comfortable space where our clients return time and time again, helping them not only find a gorgeous outfit to wear for any occasion, but taking a journey with them toward body positivity. All women deserve to love their bodies and feel as gorgeous as their souls are, and if a client leaves our store feeling this way, our mission is accomplished.
"We do our very best to help our clients reach a body positive mindset, while bringing them the latest trends in a range of sizes at affordable prices; we live and breathe these values."
808 Threads has collaborated with Channel 9's Adelady Lauren De Cesare, curve models Amelia Stubbs, Annaliese Gann, Carla Conlin, Jo from Married At First Sight 2018, and countless others across social media. We also have had features in The Messenger, This is Radelaide, The Adelaidian, and Times Two Blog.
We have been named "pioneers in the Adelaide dress hire scene" for including women that have otherwise been left out of the hire industry.
Many people ask about the origins of our unique name: the number 8 takes form of an hour-glass figured woman, while the number 808 is the penal code for disturbing the peace! And Threads? It's what clothes are made of!
We are open by appointment for try-ons in Stepney, South Australia – otherwise you can simply browse our site and book your outfit online.
Lots of love,
Alexia and the team xx
